Flash Easter Eggs

You may well remember than Excel 2000 had a hidden car game, that you could access by pressing various keys and entering cells. What you might not have known is that Flash has its very own hidden features. They are known as easter eggs, and are usually created by the developer as a secret little extra. Occasionally developers enter credits so everyone knows that they made it, and sometimes they include games. In our case, Flash has six small playable games.

So how do you find them? It's very simple. Open Flash (this works in both Flash MX 2004 and Flash 8 Professional). Now, go to Help, then select About Flash Professional (it might say About Flash MX 2004) as seen below:

Once you have done this, you will see a small window appear. Look familiar? It should, it's just the About page. But, something secret lurks behind this menu, and to access it, you must click on a very specific part. See beneath for the areas to click.

For MX Pro 2004:

For Pro 8:

As you can see, you need to click the TM next to where it says "2004" on the Flash MX Professional 2004 screen. It is very small and difficult to click, and the mouse pointer does nto change to the hand when it is over the correct pixel, which makes it even harder. For Professional 8, you must click the dot of the "i" in "macromedia". A very small target once again. Once done correctly, the screen should change showing six boxes. If you hover over the boxes, a screenshot of the game will appear.

Here you can see what happens when you roll over the first square. The screenshot for the game "breakthrough" appears.

Simply click the game you want to play, and enjoy. The screen will turn white while the game is loading. For some reason, you must be connected to the internet for this. If you press the "OK" button at any time, the window will close. If you have had problems with this tutorial, please post it on the KnowFlash forum and we will try to fix it.
